As HR professionals, how do we manage the summer season? It is not a secret that with the rise in temperature during the summer, motivation decreases. There are a few things you can modify in your HR Department to ensure you keep productivity high in your company during the summer.
Here are some of the things that you can do as an organization to tackle these common HR challenges:
Flexible work schedules
Some things that you should consider are a flexible work schedule and allow your employees to work when they prefer. For instance, if you work 8-5, maybe you could allow them to come in at 10 and then work until 7.
Host company-wide events
You might also think about other things that are fun in the sun, such as going to a local park or a theme park.
Create an alternative dress code policy
Alternative dress code policies can be great for employees who are looking for some flexibility during the summer.
Provide fun food choices
If your business has a great site with trees and a shaded area, then maybe have food trucks or dessert trucks come on-site and serve your customers. Or, hammock zones where your employees can go out and enjoy the sun.
Review your PTO policy
How do we manage this high volume of requests for PTO? This is a very high volume time. Do you review your policy annually? If it’s something thats already been reviewed, then it’s something that you might want to consider doing. Also, whats the submission time frame?
Manage PTO requests fairly
If you had to deny someone a date or a range of dates this year, what about an alternative? From a staffing perspective, there are some things that you can do to help ease the burden of that time off.
Document your fun summertime activities
How do we utilize these great benefits? How do we make the most of them? You want to organize great events, bring people together, and share this information with candidates.
The greatest strength you have is that you can communicate the message that this is a great place to work.
Promote your summertime activities to help attract candidates
Being able to share your story will allow everyone to see how much you love what you do and how much you value your work.
Having an employee share their story will allow everyone to see how happy they are at work and how much they care about each other.
